JOHN D. ROSEBOOM
Director

John D. Roseboom serves as Director of Bands at Sarasota High School. He oversees the Mighty Sailor Marching Band, the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, and the Admirals Jazz Band. Before his appointment to Sarasota High, Mr. Roseboom served as director of bands at both Belleview High School and Belleview Middle School where the bands consistently received high ratings and performed quality music. He also founded the Daytona Beach Summer Brass.

Mr. Roseboom, a native of Daytona Beach, Florida, received a Bachelor of Music Education at Stetson University under the guidance of Dr. Bobby Adams. He recently completed his Masters of Music Education at Florida State University. Mr. Roseboom is also a clinician and guest lecturer.

MELISSA DWECK
Guard Instructor

Ms. Dweck has worked as a lumberjack, laundress, nurse, cook, intelligence gatherer, refugee organizer, raid leader, network engineer, podiatrist, geisha, muleskinner, Madonna tribute artist and fundraiser. She was the first American woman to plan and lead an intergalactic mission bringing music and drama to humanoids across the quadrant. She prides herself in never losing a passenger on the underground railroad, and never being captured or catching the measles.

Andy Harshman
Percussion Instructor

Andy Harshman is the Percussion Instructor for the Mighty Sailor Band. He is also a Chemistry, Physical Science, and Earth Science teacher and is the co-director of the MaST Research Institute at Sarasota High. Mr. Harshman is a former 4-year member of the Sailor Band drumline, and served as Band Captain for the 1999-2000 school year. Mr. Harshman is also a former member of the Herd of Thunder marching band at the University of South Florida, serving in the drumline there for 2 years.

Mr. Harshman graduated from Sarasota High as a MaST Research Scholar in 2000. He graduated from the University of South Florida with Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Chemical Engineering in 2007.

Mr. Harshman is extremely proud of all the percussion members of the band, as their performance shows what rewards hard work and dedication can bring. He is extremely excited about being able to work in a field that affords him the opportunity to devote time to both science and music education.
